This is probably the most striking (standard) colour for this new bull that I have seen todate…but I’m sure some owners will find some interesting colour or unique combinations to top this soon!

Maintaining a matt paintwork…

At AbsoluteGloss Showcar Detailer, we pride ourselves in maintaining / restoring your car to a showroom condition by constantly improving and perfecting the art of paintwork polishing to a state of high gloss. So it is quite a change when we had several matt painted car lined up for detail over the past weeks.

This is a BMW E90 M3 in a special Frozen Grey Metallic, first introduced in a M6 Competition Edition. Having seen many badly executed after-market matt paintwork, I was surprised this colour looks great on a M3, and looks very special indeed!

This car was maintained by a ‘detailer’ with little or no knowledge of proper paintwork maintenance and he managed to use a combination of techniques and products that are unsuitable for matt paintwork/matt vinyl wrap/dry carbon fiber and this results in ugly patches all over the vehicle. Luckily no heavy damage was done and we are able to restore and correct the paintwork to an immaculate condition.

Patiently deep cleansed and protected to bring out a nice sheen to the matt paintwork…

Detailed…a stunning Amulet Red Audi R8

We were tasked to detail this 4 year-old Audi R8, bought used with the red paintwork slightly faded & very little gloss to be had…and to bring out a showroom shine that we are famous for!

The paint correction work took slightly over 5 hours with another 2 hours dedicated to fine polishing work alone, just to bring out a sweet, deep gloss. We finished it off with 2 layers of high-grade carnauba wax from Swissvax

Love to detail any Aston Martin, but I especially fond of those Aston designed by Ian Callum…with it’s masculine curve, I reckoned this shape will still be a classic 20 years from now!

OK…this car came with lots of deep washing swirls as a result of bad wash techniques by owner’s helpers. We performed our popular Swissvax Premium Detail on this one…the end results is a stunning looking, deep lustre, swirl-free paintwork and brings out a glow that showcased the best of the curves.

Surface coating products…

I received quite a few enquiries from some of my clients and regular readers of my blog, referring to some of my entries below as to which vehicle protection coating that I do offer and/or will recommend to them…
(1) Meguiar’s M188 Deep Crystal Coating
(2) G’Zox Quartz Coat 7

Allow me to clarify…I received or are able to obtain quite a few brands of coating products every now and then and I ran some serious real world test on every one of these to assess their performance and suitability for adoption as one of my detailing arsenal. As many of you may know, there has been an upsurge of new coating products entering into the market over the past few months, many of them are passed off as the “real deal” of surface protection or are heavily marketed, usually without any merit or much substantiation. And trust me after testing a bunch of them, it is safe to say that not all surface coating products are created equal…NOT AT ALL!!!

Without going into all the details at this moment of time, please note that I WILL NOT be offering any of these (1) Meguiar’s M-188 (2) AQuartz (3) G’Zox Quartz 7 (4) cQuartz Ceramic Coating (5) gTechniq c1 as a service to my clients! As some of you may know, these are some of the coating products that I have previously tested in-house for a substantial period of time. (1) & (2) above are absolute lemon (despite what the seller initially claimed otherwise) while (3) & (4) do not meet our standard requirement or seller’s marketing claims. gTechniq c1 is the sole exception, but while being a decent coating product by itself, it ultimately falls short of my expectations and do not meet certain criteria that I have set out (sorry Rob…appreciate your support & hoped we could work something out in the future!)

This does not mean that you should not use or try them out (with the notable exception of M-188 & AQuartz which you should avoid at all cost) just that they will not be offered in-house as part of my services.

I hoped this clarify my present position…

This is the water beading protection one should expect 6~9 months after coating...

Signature Detail…Bentley Continental Flying Spur Speed with CrystalPro VX1

Another vehicle came for our Signature Detail…

This Bentley may be only 5 months-old but it came to us with heavily contaminated (metal overspray) & rough paintwork, trims & windows. The owner wants it restored to a brand new condition as the contamination robbed the paintwork of the glow and is rough to touch!

Removing the metal overspray and have it ready for paintwork polishing process alone took us close to 8 man-hours with every inch restored to meet the owner’s expectations.

The car is then carefully polished and finished off with a 2-step fine polishing process. It was then coated with CrystalPro VX1 GlassCoat for long term surface protection!

This Phantom Black Audi R8 came for a Swissvax Premium Detail…as the owner took pretty decent care of his wash, there only need to remove light swirls and efforts are concentrated on polishing the paintwork to a high shine and brings out the deep colour definition of this colour.

Signature Detail…Ferrari 458 Italia

This 6 months-old Ferrari 458 Italia has just returned from a 1,200km cross country drive with a couple of grueling track sessions in between. The owner wants it restored to a ‘no-effort-spared-better-than-new’ condition.

This after a 4-days Signature Detail by our team of expert detailers…paintwork are then protected by CrystalPro VX1 Glass Coat

But before that, all wheels are carefully removed to be detailed, then coated with CrystalPro Wheel Guard…

Wheel nuts as it is…

…then carefully hand-polished and restored to a “like new” shine!

Brake assembly, coilovers & wheel arches are carefully detailed to brand new condition…

Engine bay washed and detailed…

A total of more than 40 hours were spent just on preparing & fine-polishing the paintwork to achieve a swirl-free finish…

Detailed…Mercedes SL350

Did the annual detail for this SL350 last week…paintwork looked dull and car came with the usual swirls from bad washing technique.

A 3-steps paint correction detail was needed to bring the car back to a showroom condition

Time consuming fine polishing works are needed to give the paintwork an unparelleled color depth and bring it to a deep lustre

Not bad for a 5 year-old car with original paintwork huh?

Meguiar’s M188 Deep Crystal Coating

Received these (Meguiar’s M188 Deep Crystal Coating) a few days back…I just took it our and apply it on a couple of panels. Can’t tell how good they are as yet as they usually take some 4~6 days to fully cured and shows their full gloss.

Will apply these coating on a couple of test cars next week. Details & test results to be update over a period of 6~9 months time frame as necessary.

Was advised to coat the vehicles at least twice a year, so I am not expecting great durability compared to some of the coating that I have used over the past 4~5 years…but we will see if M188 holds any surprises for us.

Detailing 2010…(part 1/4)

As my schedule don’t always allows me to update this blog as often as I would like, I will take this opportunity to look back at some of the more interesting details that I have worked on over the past 12 months…

Lamborghini Murciélago LP640

I have the good fortune to having detailed well over 150 Lamborghinis over the years. I personally love the classic Pearl Yellow (Giallo Evros) & Pearl Orange (Arancio Atlas). It’s such a delight to see the finishing on these cars after some good detailing work!
